There is never a good time to encounter a dental emergency, but it can happen to anyone. Whether it is an unexpected kernel of popcorn that cracks a tooth, or a worrisome ache that keeps you up all night, the trained staff in our dental office is here to help you decide on the best action. In some situations, you may know right away you are experiencing a dental emergency, and need to call us. In other cases, you may wonder: can I wait?
Knocked Out Tooth: Call Us Immediately
If you or a child has knocked out a tooth, you should pick up the phone right away. Our office has a 24-hour response line, so we can guide you. Locate the tooth, if you can, and pick it up by the crown, taking care not to touch the roots. Rinse it gently, if necessary, and place it in a container of milk or salt water. We can give your further emergency instructions when you call.
Sudden Onset of Tooth or Facial Pain
Pain can signal many things, but it always means some part of the body is unhappy. Sudden onset pain can be an emergency, requiring immediate attention, or it can sometimes be managed with over-the-counter pain medication so we can see you in a few hours or the next day. You do not need to decide: call our office and we can help guide you in the best next steps.
Discomfort That Become More Noticeable Time
Discomfort that slowly becomes painful can signal a tooth infection, a cavity in need of filling, or other processes that may not be an emergency, but still required dental attention. Whatever the case, a dental issue that is treated early is likely to cause less trouble, and be treated more easily in the early stages. If you notice nagging aches or pains, or pain that comes and goes, please let us know. We will want to have you come in at a convenient time, so we can have a look.
