Riverside, CA dentist offers endodontics and oral surgery

Being told you need invasive dental work, such as tooth extraction or a root canal, can be overwhelming. These procedures can seem intimidating and confusing. Your Riverside Dental Group team in California is here to guide you through the process. And, unlike other offices, we offer oral surgery and endodontic treatment in our own office, so you do not need to be referred elsewhere.

When Is Endodontic Treatment Required

Endodontics is an area of dentistry that focuses on the pulp of the tooth. The pulp is the inner layer of your dental structure and contains blood vessels and nerves. This area creates dentin, which is below your enamel, and provides nutrients to your tooth. If the pulp of your tooth is harmed, you may need a root canal treatment to restore it. This can happen if a cavity becomes severe, a tooth has been severely fractured, or the area is infected. If a root canal is not done, you may need to have the tooth extracted instead.

The Process Of A Root Canal

Before this procedure, the area will be numbed, or you may be sedated. This allows you to be comfortable. You should not feel any pain, but you may feel pressure around the area. Then, the damaged pulp will be removed. This is an important step because it helps relieve pain and protect the rest of your tooth. The area will then be cleaned, and the area will be filled with material. Finally, it will be sealed. In some cases, a crown may be placed on top to further protect the area.

What About Oral Surgery?

Oral surgery is different than endodontics. It may include procedures such as tooth extractions and implant insertions. You may need to have a tooth removed if it is damaged beyond repair or can cause potential problems to your other pearly whites. A common oral surgery that patients may need is wisdom tooth removal. Our wisdom teeth grow in at a later age and are not necessary for our smiles to function. In many cases, they are often taken out before they can disrupt the alignment of your smile. Your dentist will track the growth of these teeth and determine when the best time to remove them may be. We can have this done within our office, so you do not have to be referred elsewhere.
