Whether you are a kid or an adult, when you play full contact sports there is always the risk of an injury to your smile. Even minor chips or cracks could not only change the appearance of your teeth, but leave them vulnerable to cavities and infections. But your team at Riverside Dental Group can offer a greater level of protection with a pro-form mouthguard.
Ready to safeguard your smile? Then receive a custom mouthguard from Riverside Dental Group.
The Reasons to Wear a Mouthguard
When you play full contact sports or engage in other activities where there is a risk of damage to your smile, we recommend wearing an athletic mouthguard. When in place, this custom device helps limit the risk of a cracked or chipped tooth. They also help prevent cuts to the gums or cheeks, and when worn the chances of a knocked-out tooth are much lower. They are also helpful if a patient is wearing orthodontics, again protecting the teeth and gums from injuries should an accident occur. There is also a lower risk of jaw fractures too.
The Pro-Form Difference
You can pick up a standard boil-and-bite option from your local sporting goods store, but these do not provide the same level of protection as our pro-form mouthguards. These are crafted from two layers of laminated vinyl, and a lingual plate is added to fit behind the incisors. This unique design helps distribute pressure and protects the smile from injury, while also ensuring the guard itself doesn’t lose its shape with time and use. These can also be customized, which many of our teen patients appreciate. Patients can choose colors, and the appliance will last for years to come. They can be replaced as needed.
Other Protective Actions
Along with wearing a mouthguard, you can also take good care of your teeth to fight the onset of tooth decay, which keeps the teeth strong and free of decay that could weaken the structure. Be sure you brush and floss, and that your kids do as well! Find time to see our team for a checkup too.
