riverside prosthetic dentistry

Do you have a missing tooth, or possibly several? When you suffer from tooth loss, you need a dental prosthetic to offer a complete smile again and avoid major oral health complications. In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about securing new teeth with prosthetic dentistry.

The Causes and Dangers of Tooth Loss

We could lose our teeth to accidents and injuries, or even as a result of an advanced case of tooth decay or infection. The most common cause is typically periodontitis, the advanced stage of gum disease. When you lose teeth, the gaps in your smile could cause surrounding teeth to move from their natural positions, which creates misalignment and worsening oral health. Missing teeth could also cause embarrassment and limit your willingness to engage in social situations, which also means trouble for your overall quality of life. Tooth loss is of course also linked to issues eating your favorite foods or even speaking clearly. The lack of tooth roots also means an increased risk of lost density in the smile, which could lead to further tooth loss and an older appearance. But we can help with prosthetic dentistry, taking on minor and even advanced tooth loss.

Dental Bridges and Dentures

For minor tooth loss, our team can replace between one and four missing teeth in a row with a dental bridge. The prosthetic contains new teeth with crowns on each end. We will then attach the crowns to the natural teeth on each side of the gap to secure the new ones firmly in place. If you have multiple gaps in your smile, we could create a partial denture that fills these gaps and is secured with metal clasps that attach to natural teeth. With a full set of dentures, we will use suction or the assistance of an adhesive to support a complete row of new teeth! Both dentures are removable, and need to be taken out for soaking or cleaning.

Implant Dentistry

With dental implants, we can insert a post into the jaw that acts as a new root and keeps the jawbone intact, so you don’t lose mass and density, and your youthful facial features are preserved. This can also support a bridge or even a set of dentures, and offer replacement that lasts far longer, decades in some cases!
