In just a few weeks, kids in our community will be heading back to school. As you help them get ready, don’t forget to bring them by our office. In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about how a simple checkup and cleaning can help kids start a new school with a bright and healthy smile!
Starting With an Exam and Cleaning
When was the last time your child had a dental exam? We recommend one every six months for kids over the age of two, so we can keep an eye on their smiles and catch issues that develop in their early stages treating them before they threaten smile stability. Our team can identify and treat issues like tooth decay and gingivitis, and watch for issues that could increase the risk of misalignment. We can then offer treatment, such as dental fillings to stop cavities or even Phase One orthodontics to address the early stages of dental misalignment.
In the same appointment, we will also take time to clean the teeth. Using an ultrasonic scaling device and a manual tool, your team will gently and thoroughly move all plaque and tartar to strengthen the smile and brighten it too!
Fluoride Treatments and Dental Sealants
We also want to help kids avoid the onset of tooth decay, which is why we can provide preventive treatments. With fluoride treatments, we coat the teeth in a special varnish after the checkup and cleaning portion of your child’s visit. This strengthens the outer enamel to keep cavities away for months to come. For kids that have trouble reaching the rear teeth, we could coat the molars in dental sets, using a thin acrylic layer to keep food and drink particles from being caught where kids can’t reach them, lowering the risk of cavities for years to come.
Improving How Everyone Brushes and Flosses
We also take time to talk to kids about improving their oral hygiene routine, including how to properly brush and floss and the importance of cutting back on the amount of sugar in their diets. These actions help prevent issues that could threaten little smiles!
