We want to help kids maintain good oral health, and that is why we offer pediatric dentistry. With regular visits, we can help kids better care for their smiles and avoid issues like tooth decay. In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about how we protect children’s smiles with pediatric dentistry.
When Kids Need Pediatric Dentistry
Once your child reaches age one and the first baby tooth erupts, we recommend a wellness visit with our team. We will examine the smile and make sure your little one’s teeth are erupting as they should. Once your children reach age two, we urge parents to bring them in for routine checkups every six months. During these visits, we can examine their smiles with advanced digital imaging, which provide a comfortable examination process and a diagnosis with precision. We look for issues like tooth decay, as well as other concerns that could lead to misalignment. We can provide fillings as needed to treat tooth decay, and we have phase one orthodontics to start treating misalignment as young as age seven.
These visits also help kids become accustomed to the dentist, so they are less likely to develop dental anxiety later in life. They also gain a better understanding of the importance of caring for their smiles, and we talk to them about proper brushing and flossing habits.
Cleaning Teeth
In the same visit as the exam, we will also clean the teeth. The dental cleaning allows our team to carefully and gently remove all plaque and tartar from the smile, a process that helps lower the risk of tooth decay and even gingivitis in older teens. This also helps fight bad breath and can limit teeth stains.
Fluoride Treatments
To lower the risk of cavities, we could apply fluoride to the teeth to help strengthen the outer enamel!
Dental Sealants
Since kids have trouble reaching the rear teeth, this could be an area that tooth decay is more likely to form in. But with dental sealants, we can coat the teeth in a layer of acrylic to prevent sugar from being caught between the teeth, which lowers the risk of cavities for years to come.
