If you are undergoing a restorative treatment or possibly oral surgery, then you may feel a little nervous. But we always take time to ensure your procedure is a comfortable experience! In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about protecting patients with oral conscious sedation.
When You Need a Calming Option
When do we prescribe an option like oral conscious sedation? This could be helpful if you are undergoing a more extensive treatment, such as crown placement, root canal therapy, or even dental implant placement. This can also aid in more substantial oral surgeries, such as grafting, sinus lift procedures, or even wisdom tooth extraction. If you have special needs or high anxiety levels, then this could allow you to remain comfortable and calm throughout the procedure, so you always enjoy a positive experience in our office.
The Oral Conscious Sedation
We will prescribe this option for you based on several different factors. We will look at your age, weight, medical history, and any medications you are currently taking. Our team will also assess your anxiety levels and the presence of special needs that could complicate your treatment experience. With this option, we will have you avoid food and drink for a few hours prior to the procedure, and will likely schedule treatment to occur in the morning when we open.
We suggest wearing loose and comfortable clothing, and you can bring a blanket or a pillow with you too. You will take the medication in a pill or liquid form, and enter a deep state of calm. You likely will have no memory of the procedure at all.
What Happens Next?
When the treatment ends, you will still be a little groggy, so you will need someone on hand to take you home. The effects will wear off gradually. We will provide any necessary aftercare instructions to ensure a fast and comfortable healing process. Our team will also schedule any necessary follow-up appointments. If you have any questions about how we ensure a comfortable visit with the use of oral conscious sedation, or if you want to schedule an appointment to receive care before the holidays arrive, let us know. You can use your dental benefits before they expire!
