woodcrest dental emergencyKids and adults can develop pain in their smiles due to dental emergency situations, such as a chipped or cracked tooth, or even one knocked loose or out! Fortunately, our team can help with durable and lifelike dental restorations. In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about emergency dentistry.

When Smiles Young and Old Need Emergency Dentistry

When you or your child has chipped a tooth, or if one is knocked loose or out, let us know right away. The same goes for a tooth that suddenly hurts, or if you have an object caught between one or under the gums that floss cannot remove. If you sustain an injury to the face and no damage is visible, consider an appointment as a fracture could be invisible to the naked eye but still threaten your smile with eventual decay or infection unless treated. When an issue happens, call us right away. If this occurs during our normal operating hours, we will try to see you same-day for emergency dentistry. If not, then leave a message and a team member will reach out right away to schedule a time to see you soon!

Tips for Easing Your Immediate Discomfort

You can take steps to ease discomfort and protect smiles. For example, you should rinse with warm water and try to floss on either side of the tooth. If this fails to dislodge anything or ease pain, then take an over-the-counter pain reliever and see us. If the area bleeds, you can stem it with cloth or gauze. Any facial swelling can be controlled with a cold compress to the side of your face. Should a tooth be knocked-out completely, then pick it up only by the crown, the visible portion, and never touch the root. Place it into the socket and bite down to hold in place, gently! You can also put the tooth in a sealed container of milk or salt water. Bring it with you to the office!

Repairing Teeth and Ensuring Lifelike Results

Our team could use dental bonding to repair minor injuries in only one sitting, and our custom and lifelike crowns can take on more substantial injuries. We can restore knocked out teeth to your bite too.
