If you have chipped a tooth, experienced sudden pain, or even if a tooth is knocked-out, then you need to see our team. With emergency dentistry, we can take on sudden injuries and protect your smile from major complications! In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about how we treat a dental emergency and save your tooth!
Examples of Dental Emergencies
What are examples of a dental emergency that needs immediate attention? Well, if you have sudden pain, or an object becomes lodged between the teeth or under the gums, this could be a source of serious discomfort and we could provide relief. If a tooth is chipped or cracked, even if the damage appears minor, care is needed to avoid decay and infection down the road. If a tooth is knocked loose or comes out completely, then obviously you should see our team right away! If you have restorations, prosthetics, or orthodontics that are damaged, then again let us know.
Contacting Our Team
If an issue happens, please call our office right away. If you reach us during our normal operating hours, then we will try to see you same-day for emergency treatment. If you reach us and we are closed, then leave a message and a team member will reach out to you quickly to discuss possible appointment times. You can also take steps to ease your discomfort, such as stemming bleeding with cloth, using an ice pack to control facial swelling, and taking an over-the-counter pain reliever. You can also recover any pieces of your tooth and bring with you. If a tooth is knocked out, pick it up by the crown only, never the root, and place it in a sealed container of milk or salt water. If this is not possible then gently place it back into the socket and bite down carefully to keep it in place.
Treatment Options
How do we treat the issue and preserve your smile? For minor damage, we could use bonding to fix a tooth in one visit. We also have custom crowns for more substantial injuries. Our team can restore the tooth to its place in your smile and we can also replace or repair crowns, fillings, orthodontics, or prosthetics like bridges or dentures that have been compromised.
