When You Need a Calming Solution
When do we recommend dental sedation for our patients? We could prescribe this for people who have serious anxiety about visiting the dentist, ensuring that even with poor past experiences at other practices, this visit will be a relaxing and a positive experience. A calming solution could also be helpful for kids and adults with special needs that could complicate treatment. If someone is undoing a more extensive treatment, such as wisdom tooth extraction or dental implant placement, we could offer a calming medication.
We take a number of factors into account before we settle on a calming option. For example, we look at your age, weight, and overall medical history. We consider any medications you are currently taking, and assess your anxiety level. Oral Conscious Sedation
A common and effective option we prescribe is oral conscious sedation. You remain conscious and able to respond to the dentist as needed, but will have no memory of the process at all. The effects take time to wear off completely, so be sure someone is ready to take you home afterward.
