riverside dental emergenciesTo protect your smile following a dental emergency, we could offer custom restorative treatment and even custom dental prosthetics. Which is why we offer a personalized approach to emergency dentistry. In today’s blog, your team at Riverside Dental Group talks about protecting smiles by treating a dental emergency.

Common Dental Emergencies

What are examples of dental emergencies that threaten your smile? For some, this could be a minor chip, or even a fracture. Major breakage is also a cause for concern, as is a tooth that is knocked loose or out. You should let us know if you experience a sudden toothache, or if a crown or filling is loose or lost. Let us know if you have damaged orthodontics or if your dental prosthetics have been compromised. These are all examples of dental emergencies and we want to protect your smile with treatment, so you avoid the risk of decay and infection, or even tooth loss!

Easing Your Initial Discomfort

Treating your dental emergencies protects your smile, so we want you to call our office right away. If we are open, we will try to see you same-day for treatment. If not, then leave a message so a team member can reach out to you with appointment time and suggestions for protecting your smile until we can see you.

To ease discomfort, rinse with warm water and use cloth or gauze to control the bleeding. You can also avoid facial swelling with a cold compress to the side of your face. You can take an over-the-counter pain reliever as needed as well. If you can recover any pieces of your tooth, do so and bring them with you. If a tooth is knocked out completely, only pick it up by the crown, on the root, and place it in a sealed container of milk or salt water. If you are proceeding directly to our office, you can return it to the pockets and gently bite down to keep it in place until we can see you.

Our Repair and Replacement Options

Our team can restore a knocked-out tooth to its proper place in your smile, and also address compromised orthodontics, restorations, or prosthetics, repairing or replacing as needed. For minor injuries, we can offer custom crowns and even same-day bonding!
