riverside dental emergency

When a tooth is injured, the resulting cracks and chips could lead to discomfort and even leave your smile vulnerable to issues like tooth decay and infection. Which is why we want to offer emergency dental care to repair them right away. In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about repairing and protecting smiles with dental emergency care.

Common Examples of Dental Emergencies

What constitutes a dental emergency? Simply put, this refers to any injuries to the teeth and gums that are serious and require immediate attention, but are not life threatening. If you have a potentially life-threatening issue, we urge you to call 911 or proceed to the nearest emergency room. But if you have a chipped, cracked, or broken tooth, or if one has been knocked loose or out completely, then let us know right away.

Seeing Our Team for Treatment

We want you to call our office right away. If your injury occurs during our normal business hours, we will try to see you same-day. If you call us outside of our normal business hours, then just leave a message and a team member will reach out to you quickly with possible appointment times. Don’t delay care and increase the risk of complications!

You can also take steps to ease your initial discomfort and prevent further complications. Rinse with warm water and then apply gauze or cloth to the bleeding area. Then use a cold compress or ice pack to help control facial swelling, and take an over-the-counter pain reliever as needed. If you can recover any pieces of your tooth, please do so and bring them with you. If your tooth has been knocked out, then pick it up only by the crown, never touch the roots, and place it in a sealed container of milk or salt water, and bring it with you to the office.

Preventing Injuries

We can also discuss creating a custom athletic mouthguard, one that is designed to handle serious bite forces and pressures, and stay in shape for longer than standard boil-and-bite options, while also providing a greater level of protection. If you have any questions about emergency dental care, then contact our team today.
