Children need dental care, the same way adults need routine care. In fact, with the right steps, you can help your little one avoid the onset of painful cavities. In today’s blog, your team at Riverside Dental Group talks about how we protect smiles of all ages with pediatric dentistry.
Checkups and Cleanings for Kids
Pediatric dentistry starts with a dental exam, which enables our team to take a close look at the smile for potential signs of trouble. We will conduct this using detailed digital imaging, so the process is fast and comfortable, providing a diagnosis with accuracy and precision. We can create a treatment plan to address the issue and offer relief. In the same visit, we will conduct a cleaning for little smiles, which involves gently removing all plaque and tartar buildup from the teeth. Once we do, we will polish the teeth for a brighter appearance. This polish also helps prevent major buildup from occurring before we can see your child again for their next six-month appointment!
Preventing Cavities
Our team also offers two different procedures designed to help prevent the onset of tooth decay. For example, we can apply fluoride to the teeth in a varnish form, which helps strengthen the outer enamel and make the onset of cavities less likely. Applying this takes seconds and can be done in every checkup and cleaning visit. Kids then just avoid food and drink for about a half hour as it cures. For this reason, kids also benefit from fluoride toothpaste!
We also know that kids have a hard time brushing and flossing the rear teeth. This means that food and drink parties can remain trapped between the rear molars. But with dental sealants, we will apply a thin acrylic layer to the rear teeth, placed in only seconds. This means nothing can become caught between the teeth and your child’s teeth can avoid cavities, often for years to come!
Treating Tooth Decay
What happens if we discover a cavity in your child’s smile? If this happens, we can place a filling made from a durable and metal-free material that is safe for kids of all ages. The composite resin filling will bond with the tooth and blend with it too, offering a more lifelike appearance.
