In today’s blog, your team at Riverside Dental Group talks about natural-looking tooth replacement with prosthetic dentistry.

The Dangers of Losing Natural Teeth

Losing natural teeth could happen due to an injury, a severe case of tooth decay or infection, or even due to periodontal disease. When you lose a tooth, this could leave an open gap in your smile, so the risk of misalignment is much higher as teeth drift. Pressure on your bite could mean issues like TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). You could have issues with eating or even speaking clearly, and your jawbone could regularly erode to cause further tooth loss and an aged appearance. But with prosthetic dentistry, we can replace missing teeth to prevent these complications. Dental implants can even help keep your jawbone and youthful facial structure intact!

Dental Bridges

For minor tooth loss, we could restore your smile with a bridge. The prosthetic contains one to three new teeth in a row, with crowns attached to each end. Made from ceramic, this will be very durable and lifelike in appearance. We attach the crown portions to the natural teeth on each side of the gap, which secures new teeth firmly in place for up to 15 years in some cases!

Full and Partial Dentures

If you have more severe tooth loss, then we could offer help with a set of dentures. We could offer an option that fills in multiple gaps spread out across the smile, a partial denture, or one that replaces every tooth on one or goth arches, known as a full denture. Both are custom-made for your smile based on detailed digital impressions we take, and both will be removable, lasting about 5 to 10 years on average.

Implant Dentistry

With dental implants, we insert these into the jaw that acts like a new tooth, with the potential to last for decades to come, possibly a lifetime. We can address a single missing tooth, or use multiple ones to support a bridge or even a fixed set of dentures!
