Questions and Answers: Whitening

Question: What if I have some fillings in my back teeth but I want a whiter smile? Can I choose teeth whitening?

Answer: If you have metal fillings, we may suggest you replace them with white fillings to improve the look of your smile. If you already have composite fillings but you want to whiten your entire smile, you may go ahead with this treatment. If necessary, we might replace the existing composite with material that matches your newly brightened teeth for more seamless finish.

Question: What if I have visible crowns but I want a whiter smile? Can I just use teeth whitening for everything?

Answer: No. We can’t use whitening on material that is not your natural tooth tissue. We can, however, come up with an alternative plan of action to guide you toward a beautiful white smile. Usually, this means replacing your dental work and then treating natural teeth separately.

Question: What if my discoloration is uneven, severe in some places but mild in others? How can you help me arrive at a whiter, even-looking smile?

Answer: If your discoloration is quite uneven, we might steer you away from traditional whitening. To ensure the results are uniform, we might suggest the use of veneers or bonding.
