There are so many reasons to get excited when summer shows up on the scene. While we have no desire to turn you away from getting the absolute most out of the sunshine and merriment that is about to ensue, we do want to remind you of something pretty significant: If you’re not careful, summer may interfere with sleep apnea treatment. Fortunately, once you’re aware of the potential hazards, you can more easily make it from June through August with successful sleep.

#1: Those Late Nights

What’s your summer like? If you’re traveling or have kids out of school (or you’re in college and you’re out of school), then chances are good you might have some much later nights than you do during the rest of the year. This can result in multiple concerns: You’re forgetting about your sleep apnea treatment because you’re tired and crawl into bed without it or you’re not getting enough sleep, which is messing with your usual routine. Remember to stay the course and use your treatment nightly!

#2: That Time Outdoors

Summertime is time to spend time outdoors (say that five times fast!). Unfortunately, this can lead to congestion for individuals with serious allergies. If this is the case for you, address the congestion consistently, so you don’t work against your sleep apnea treatment.

#3: That Travel

There’s no simpler way to say this than with what follows: Bring your sleep apnea treatment with you when you travel. If you don’t, you’ll be attempting to sleep without it, which is counterproductive to the work you’ve already put in toward protecting yourself!
