Because it is possible for teeth to shift towards their original position after orthodontics are removed, retainers are a crucial part of your orthodontic therapy. Your orthodontist will provide retainers and prescribe the frequency of wear that is right for you. There are several types of retainers, the traditional Hawley retainer made of acrylic and stainless steal wires, a clear “invisible” retainer, or a permanent retainer. At the end of treatment you will want to discuss with your orthodontist what type of retention is best for you.
What are Permanent Retainers?
Permanent retainers are fixed in place and cannot be removed. They are attached to the back of your teeth. Everyone who wears braces requires a retainer. However, this doesn’t mean a permanent one is the best choice for your smile. When you visit us, we will look at your teeth, treatment history, and other factors to decide if you need a permanent or removable one.
Retainers help ensure your smile remains as attractive as the day your braces were removed. For more information, please contact one of our Riverside Dental Group offices. We have locations in Corona, Moreno Valley, Riverside, and Temecula
