at Riverside Dental Group offer expertise if you should need a surgical procedure.
What is Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery?
A dental specialty, oral and maxillofacial surgery focuses on surgically treating conditions which affect the oral cavity, face, head, jaw, and neck. Moreno Valley dentists that are versed in this specialty utilize the assistance of our on-site anesthesiologist to be able to perform surgeries in our comfortable office. Some of the most common surgeries that we perform include removal of wisdom teeth that are either impacted, or growing in at the wrong angle, biopsies to remove suspicious cysts or tumors, and surgery for a misaligned jaw or TMJ dysfunction. Other oral surgeries might be extracting all teeth for the placement of immediate dentures, and alveoplasty, which reduces jawbone tissue for better fitting dentures.
Oral Surgery Sedation
Simpler procedures generally only require local anesthesia or nitrous oxide (commonly referred to as “laughing gas”) but our on-site anesthesiologist can administer stronger sedation when necessary. Oral conscious sedation or IV sedation induce a very relaxed state without putting you completely under. This is an option as long as you meet the age and general health requirements. You will still be conscious with oral or IV sedation, but you are unlikely to remember anything about your dental surgery when it is over.
