Putting any aspect of your health into someone else’s hands requires trust. If you are diagnosed with cancer, you’ll search high and low for the best oncologist you can find. Heart troubles? You’ll be on the hunt for a reputable cardiologist. While you might not think of a dentist as immediately affecting your life the way other doctors and surgeons do, your dental health connects to other aspects of your health. This is called an oral-systemic connection, and research shows that gum disease and tooth decay are likely linked to more life-threatening conditions such as heart disease, strokes, and cancer. In that case, wouldn’t you want to find a great dentist to look after the well-being of your teeth? The Riverside dentists at Riverside Dental Group explain how you’re likely in good hands with them.
Gallup Poll Ranks Professional Ethics
A Gallup poll released last year ranked dentists number 5 for honesty and ethical standards. The public ranked 22 different professions based on a five-point scale that ranged from “very low” to “very high.” Sixty-two percent of those polled considered dentists to be “high” or “very high” in honesty and ethics. Just above dentists were pharmacists, and physicians. “The honesty ratings of all medical professions are at the highest levels in Gallup’s history, albeit by slim margins,” said authorities at Gallup.
American Dental Association Praises Members
Lowest ranked professionals in terms of ethics and honesty were members of Congress and automobile salespeople. Nurses were at the very top of the list. Engineers, police officers, college professors, clergy, chiropractors, and psychiatrists rounded out the top ten for this year’s poll. Results were procured through telephone interviews. A completely random sampling of 1,015 above age 18 were questioned. Respondents were spread throughout the United States. Dr. Robert Faiella, president of the American Dental Association explains why dentists ranked so highly, stating, “The ADA has a stringent Code of Ethics, and we’re pleased to see that the public recognizes that our ADA members are truly putting these into practice.”
