The end of the year is fast approaching, which means 2016 will soon be here. As you know, this is a wonderful time to reflect on the year that has passed, making decisions about how you will approach life in the New Year. As you spend some time thinking about all that has happened, we suggest you save a little time to think about your oral health. By running through a simple checklist, you will gain a clearer idea of how your smile is doing at the moment and what you might need to focus on for an even healthier grin for the next calendar year.

Item #1: Does Your Smile Feel Good?

A good indicator of whether you’re in need of a visit to speak with us about your oral health is how your smile feels. For the most part, we suggest you schedule dental checkups once every six months with us, so we can detect issues before significant changes and discomfort occur. However, the new development of a cavity, a broken tooth, or jaw pain can occur between visits. If you find at the end of 2015 that your smile could feel better, schedule a visit with us right away.

Item #2: Are You On Track With Prevention?

If your smile feels wonderful, chances are good that you have been committed to your preventive dental care. Whatever state your oral health is in, however, we would like to quickly review our suggestions regarding what good preventive care consists of, including the following:

  • Seeing us two times annually (every six months) for preventive visits, including cleanings and checkups
  • Caring for your smile at home by brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing your entire smile once a day
