We all want our kids to be healthy, to have good physically health and good oral health. Today we know that poor oral health can affect your overall health, so encouraging healthy habits while your children are young can help prevent issues from developing later on. However, we all know that kids can be very picky eaters. Of course, most of them prefer sugary, gummy foods, and tasty drinks, the worst things for their teeth. Starting your kids on tooth-friendly foods while they are still toddlers can help them develop healthy habits that will last a lifetime.
Avoiding Sugar Foods
It is a well-known fact that sugary foods and carbohydrates, which break down into sugars, cause cavities. That’s why it is important to avoid giving candy, cakes, and other sugary foods and drinks to your toddlers. Try to get them used to eating healthy fruits and veggies, such as celery, carrot sticks, and apples rather than gummy bears. The condition of your child’s teeth will affect their appearance, self-confidence, and their overall health, so it is important to instill good habits while they are young.
Be Patient
If your toddler rejects a new food, don’t give up too quickly. According to studies, some children need to try a new food several times, in fact up to 15 times, before they like it. Also, as with adults, they may like raw tomatoes or raw broccoli, but not like them cooked. They may like fresh, but not frozen or canned, etc. Be patient. Try several different types of each fruit or veggie until you find something they like.
