We hear quite often from patients that they love the idea of receiving Invisalign treatment to align their misaligned smiles – but this is sometimes followed up with the fact that a friend of theirs tried Invisalign … and it “didn’t work.” We believe, of course, that it is your job to be skeptical and thoughtful when it comes to making decisions for your oral health. However, it’s also important that you have a clear, thorough understanding about treatments as you make your choices. As a result, we would like to enlighten you as to why your friend may have had a bad experience (and why yours will be great).
Reason #1: Your Friend Wasn’t Consistent
It’s important to realize that just because someone receives Invisalign treatment trays doesn’t mean that his or her smile is going to become straight on its own. You must wear the trays every single day for 20 to 22 hours each day. Making allowances can extend treatment time or simply result in treatment that doesn’t offer the desired results.
Reason #2: Your Friend Ignored The Details
We provide patients with a list of details to ensure treatment is successful. This can mean recommending that you don’t eat with trays in your mouth (it can damage them and harm your teeth), suggesting that you do not place your trays in hot water (it will ruin them), and otherwise. Successful Invisalign treatment requires a little attention to detail.
Reason #3: Your Friend Didn’t Switch Trays
You don’t wear the same Invisalign treatment trays the whole time. You continue to graduate from one set to the next (and come see us for checkups). It’s a simple process and highly effective as long as you keep up with it!
