The best approach is to let them have sugar, to consume that sugar all at once (a single sitting, rather than an all day feast), and then rinse with water. If possible, follow that rinsing session with a brushing session once a half hour of time has passed.

We also encourage you to remember our initial suggestion and set up a special time during the day, so your children eat it during treat time as a dessert.

Suggestion: Choose Certain Candies Over Others

When you’re selecting candies, your children’s dentist suggests finding something that exposes teeth and gums for the shortest period of time possible. For instance, a chocolate bar disappears much faster than a jawbreaker, lollipop, or chewy candy. Also, avoid very hard, tacky candy that can break teeth and braces!
