Question: What if I just saw you for my checkup and we agreed that I need to start flossing again. Is it normal for my gums to bleed a tiny bit and to feel sensitive when I start back up?

Answer: This is normal if it goes on for a couple days. However, your Riverside dentist explains that if the problem persists for much longer, you should give us a call just to make sure all is well.

Question: Is it normal for my gums to hurt when I floss (or to bleed) in any other circumstance?

To this, we urge you to be much more careful. In addition, you will need a dental checkup, so we may rule out or treat any existing gum disease before it advances.

Question: How about brushing? It is bad if I experience discomfort during this part of my dental hygiene session?

Answer: Again, you should not experience pain when you brush or during any other aspect of home care. Discomfort may arise due to overly intense, aggressive care.
