Questions and Answers
Question: What if I just saw you for my checkup and we agreed that I need to start flossing again. Is it normal for my gums to bleed a tiny bit and to feel sensitive when I start back up?
Answer: This is normal if it goes on for a couple days. However, your Riverside dentist explains that if the problem persists for much longer, you should give us a call just to make sure all is well.
Question: Is it normal for my gums to hurt when I floss (or to bleed) in any other circumstance?
Answer: Nope. You should not experience pain or bleeding during your dental hygiene. If you’re flossing and you’re bleeding, it could be the result of excessive force. To this, we urge you to be much more careful. In addition, you will need a dental checkup, so we may rule out or treat any existing gum disease before it advances.
Question: How about brushing? It is bad if I experience discomfort during this part of my dental hygiene session?
Answer: Again, you should not experience pain when you brush or during any other aspect of home care. Discomfort may arise due to overly intense, aggressive care. It may also happen due to damage or disease that may include gum recession, gum disease, decay, etc. See your Riverside dentist soon for answers and solutions.
