In recent blogs, we have discussed wisdom tooth extractions and root canals, both of which are considered forms of oral surgery. We know that the thought of these invasive procedures may be anxiety-inducing for some patients, however, they are necessary for maintaining a healthy smile. Your Riverside Dental Group of California is here today to help put your mind at ease before your oral surgery treatment.
There Are Many Forms Of Oral Surgery
When patients think of oral surgery, they may immediately think of wisdom tooth removal. Extractions are one of the most commonly performed kinds of oral surgery. Endodontics, such as root canals, also fall under this category. Dental implants also include oral surgery to insert the implant into your jawbone. As you can see, there is a wide range of these procedures available. These can keep your natural teeth intact, protect them from infection, and keep your smile healthy.
We Offer Conscious Sedation For Your Comfort
For your comfort, we offer oral conscious sedation for many of these treatments. Depending on the type of procedure and your needs, we can offer different levels of anesthesia. In most cases, we will use oral conscious sedation to keep you awake but relaxed during your appointment. We choose this instead of general anesthesia so that you can respond when necessary.
Oral Surgery Can Be Done At Your Dentist’s Office
Unlike other practices, we offer endodontics and oral surgery within our office. This means that you do not have to be referred elsewhere. You can feel more comfortable knowing that you can have the necessary procedures done in the office you are familiar with.
Before your specific treatment, your dentist will give you pre- and post-care instructions. In general, it is recommended that you have a friend or family member bring you to the appointment, have scheduled time off from work or school, and have soft foods available during your recovery. Since you will be sedated, it is important that someone else drives you to and from your procedure. Your recovery time may vary, but you can ask your surgeon beforehand how much time you should take off of work and/ or school to recover. If you have any questions or concerns, call your dentist.
