When Do You Need a Retainer?
When do we recommend an oral appliance like a retainer? For children, this could be part of their first phase of treatment, helping to guide the growth and development of the smile to limit poor alignment. This could also be used in adult smiles to address teeth that have shifted since completing braces. Likewise, we could offer them right after braces conclude to keep smiles in proper alignment. Removable vs. Fixed
These will be custom-fitted for your smile to ensure a comfortable fit, and that they either help shift your teeth or keep them in their current position. For some, we may recommend a removable option that needs to be soaked and cleaned. For others, we could offer a fixed option that remains in place around the clock, which is sometimes easier for our patients. These will be fixed to your rear teeth.
