Did you know that we offer pediatric dentistry? With these treatment options, we can help children of all ages avoid issues like tooth decay and enjoy better oral health. After all, we want your kids to maintain good oral health now and throughout their lives! In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about helping children in our community with pediatric dentistry.
Starting Your Child’s Checkup and Cleaning Visits
Did you know that kids benefit from a routine checkup and cleaning, just like adults? The first exam is a wellness one that happens at age one, after the eruption of the first baby tooth. Once your child is two, we will recommend a regular checkup and cleaning appointment every six months. We have the chance to monitor the smile as it grows and catch issues like tooth decay and developing misalignment in the early stages, taking care to safeguard smiles. Cleanings help protect teeth and gums by allowing us to remove all plaque and tartar. These visits also help prevent dental anxiety and allow our team to instill good oral health habits!
Treatments to Fight Cavities
We know that cavities are a serious problem for kids, which is why we offer treatments to help mitigate the risk of tooth decay. During the checkup and cleaning appointments, we can apply a special fluoride varnish to the teeth to strengthen the outer enamel and limit the risk of cavities. We also have dental sealants. If children have trouble reaching the are teeth, this can coat them, so food and drink particles don’t become trapped there, lowering the chances of cavities. They can stay in place for up to ten years! With both options, application only takes seconds, and kids just need to avoid food and drink for about a half hour as the material cures.
Helping Your Kids at Home
You can also help your kids by making sure they take time to brush for two minutes in the morning and again before bed, and that they floss every evening too. Try to limit how much sugar they eat too! If you have any questions about pediatric dentistry, then contact our team today to learn more.
