Dental misalignment could not only impact how your smile looks, but this could also lead to complications with the health and even the function of your bite. But with braces, we can take on more serious cases of dental misalignment. In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about helping smiles with braces.
The Reasons to Seek Orthodontics
When should you contact our team about orthodontic treatment? We recommend this when you have crooked, crowded, and overlapping teeth. Even minor cases could be cause for concern! When we have misalignment, this could provide places for harmful oral bacteria to break down trapped food and drink particles, leading to a higher risk of tooth decay and gum disease. Poor alignment could also lead to bad breath and teeth stains, and be a source of embarrassment for people. But we can help straighten your smile. If you have severe dental misalignment, then we could offer stunning results with our traditional braces.
Help with Braces
Our team will use braces to treat more severe cases of dental misalignment. We will first attach a metal bracket to the front-facing side of each tooth. We then connect these brackets with a thin arch wire, attaching a portion to the brackets with a band. There could be additional bands connecting the upper and lower arch too. Once these are in place, our team will adjust the tension in the wire during periodic visits, which helps shift your teeth into proper positions, so you enjoy better alignment and improved oral health. Total treatment time tends to take about two years, as the jawbone and gums need to reform around the new positions of your teeth.
What About Invisalign®?
If you have a more minor case of misalignment, we could also offer an alternative to braces with Invisalign®. Instead of using metal brackets and wires, we will shift your teeth with a series of clear and comfortable plastic aligners, which are barely visible when your orthodontics are in place. These require fewer office visits and shorter treatment times. If you have any questions about traditional metal orthodontics or about our Invisalign® aligners, then contact our team today to learn more. An even and beautiful smile is possible, and we can help!
