When you have minor misalignment, or if you have received treatment with braces and aligners and you need your new results to remain intact, we could offer a retainer. In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about helping smiles with our custom permanent and removable retainers.
When You Need a Retainer
Our approach to orthodontics includes a number of options to help kids, teens, and adults straighten their smiles, so they enjoy better oral health and a more attractive smile. For more severe cases, we could help with braces, and more minor cases could be corrected with Invisalign® aligners. But for very minor cases, we could offer a retainer. This is an oral appliance that is worn in your mouth to help shift the teeth. For kids, this could be used to keep space open and prevent worsening alignment issues before they can wear braces or Invisalign® aligners. For adults and teens, we could use retainers following treatment with braces or Invisalign® to prevent the teeth from shifting back before the jawbone finishes reforming around the teeth.
Replacement vs. Removable Options
Our team will examine your smile and talk to you about our different options, so we can choose the best one for you. Some could be made from acrylic and stainless steel, while others may be made from clear acrylic materials. Some are removable, and need to be taken out before meals and cleaned/soaked regularly. While others could be permanently affixed to your smile. Our team can offer one custom-made to ensure proper treatment and a comfortable fit, so you can enjoy your smile correction!
What Happens Next?
For people who have already undergone orthodontic treatment, the retainer will be worn daily for a specific amount of time, and you may wear a mouthguard after that. For children and teens, this could be worn temporarily to guide smile growth and limit the severity of misalignment before they can start treatment with braces or aligners. If you have any questions about how we take on your uneven teeth, or if you would like to schedule a visit with our team to get started, then reach out to our office today to learn more!
