We know that sometimes dental anxiety or special needs could make undergoing even minor treatments a difficult process. But our team can provide oral conscious sedation to help ensure a positive experience for our patients young and old. In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about keeping smiles comfortable with oral conscious sedation.
When You Require a Calming Medication
When do you need a calming solution like oral conscious sedation? We may recommend this for patients undergoing more extensive treatments, including oral surgical procedures like tooth extraction, dental implant placement, or root canal therapy, as this ensures you stay calm and comfortable. Likewise, this could help patients who have anxiety or even a phobia about the dentist, or those with special needs, so that everyone can undergo the care they need to enjoy optimal oral health in a comfortable and relaxing environment. Our team will also take other factors into account, including your age, weight, medical history, any medications you are currently taking, and anxiety levels. If this option is right for you, we will move forward with administration of oral conscious sedation.
Oral Conscious Calming
We will recommend you avoid food and drink for the eight hours prior to the procedure. We will typically schedule the procedure for the morning too. When you arrive, you will take the sedation in a pill or liquid form. This helps you enter a deep state of calm and relaxation. You remain conscious and able to respond to the dentist as needed, but you will have little to no memory of the procedure at all. When your procedure is over, the effects will take time to wear off comfortably, so be sure to have someone available to bring you home. You likely won’t be able to return to work or school that day.
If you have any questions about how our team provides a calm and comfortable treatment experience with oral conscious sedation, or if you have dental anxiety but need dental care to keep your smile bright and healthy, then contact our team. Everyone deserves good oral health and a beautiful smile, and we want to work with you to make it happen!
