moreno valley periodontic dentistry

Periodontal disease is a widespread and serious oral health concern, one that could eventually threaten the stability of your smile. Which is why our team wants to offer treatment to improve your oral health and keep your smile full! In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about our approach to periodontal dentistry.

The Warning Signs of Periodontal Disease

We always urge our patients to see our team every six months for a checkup and cleaning. Issues that threaten oral health, such as periodontal disease, do not form overnight, and routine visits are a chance to catch these concerns in the early stages and manage them before they cause discomfort or tooth loss. Otherwise, you may not realize you need treatment until the disease is more advanced. If you don’t attend these routine visits, then be sure you contact our team for periodontal treatment if you notice your gums appear red, feel sore, or bleed easily. Recession that makes teeth look longer than usual could also be a potential warning sign.

Periodontal Therapy

If we find the presence of the disease, we may start the treatment and management process with a deep cleaning. Also known as a scaling and root planing, this is a nonsurgical option that involves removing all plaque and tartar from the surfaces of the teeth and the exposed roots too. We may also remove buildup and destroy pockets from beneath the gums too. The procedure could take one visit or multiple ones, and we will numb your smile to ensure your comfort throughout the process. We then polish the teeth to limit the ability for buildup to accumulate.

Routine Cleanings

Following your scaling and root planing, we need to control buildup to keep inflammation in check and protect you from the periodontitis stage, which is linked to adult tooth loss. Our team will recommend a traditional cleaning every three to four months, so we can remove harmful buildup and polish the teeth to keep smiles healthy and strong.
