moreno valley dental crownsA tooth that needs restoration could be a source of discomfort and eventually, the risk of tooth loss. But our team can help repair the tooth with a custom-made (and lifelike) dental restoration. In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about our full and partial dental crowns.

When Teeth Need a Restoration

When should you see our team for a dental restoration? We may recommend treatment when a tooth hurts, as a toothache could indicate a cavity or even the early stages of an infection. When a tooth is chipped or cracked, treatment is needed to address it and prevent worsening pain and the risk of cavities or infection. We could also use them to help improve bite balance and chewing function as well. For some, these could even aid in tooth loss by securing a dental bridge or restoring a dental implant!

Inlays and Onlays

We have both full and partial crowns. Partial restorations, also known as inlays and onlays, are meant to address issues too severe for a full dental crown, but too severe to be addressed with a dental filling or bonding procedure alone. Both are made from ceramic and can be shaded to blend with your tooth, and can handle daily bite forces as well. The inlays fit in between the cusps on top of the teeth, while the onlays fit over the cusps.

Dental Crowns

A full crown covers the entire tooth structure above the gum line. We will numb the tooth and remove structure to make room for the restoration. We then take detailed images and impressions of the tooth and use them in a lab setting to design and craft your new restoration. As with the partials, we will use lifelike materials like ceramic, which can blend with the smile. If your side or rear teeth are being restored, we can use more durable materials as these teeth must endure greater bite forces. But fortunately, both zirconia and porcelain-fused-to-metal can also offer a lifelike appearance.

If you have any questions about how we restore smiles with fill crowns or with our inlays and onlays, then contact our team today!
