Did you know that as people approach adulthood, up to four new teeth could erupt? When the wisdom teeth arrive, this could lead to discomfort and even painful partial eruptions! But your Riverside Dental Group team can help with the safe and comfortable extraction of your wisdom teeth.
The Risks of Your Wisdom Teeth
Your third molars arrive in the rear of each end of the arches in your smile. For some, up to four new ones could erupt in the late teens and early 20s. When this happens, your teeth shift to create misalignment, and the wisdom teeth could only partially erupt, creating a painful impaction. The arrival of these teeth is also linked to damaged teeth and infection. To help protect smiles, we want to extract these before they even erupt, sparing you these complications. This is especially important if you have undergone orthodontic treatment, we don’t want you to see your hard-earned even smile altered!
Planning The Extraction
To begin, we will obtain digital x-rays of your smile, a process that is done quickly and comfortably, and using 90% less radiation. Once done, this enables us to pinpoint the position of the teeth and plan removal, without encountering nerve tissues, blood vessels, or sinus cavities. Our team will also numb the area direly with a local anesthetic, and could provide sedation to help you enter a deep state of calm. Often, we will opt for oral conscious sedation, provided in a pill or liquid form prior to the procedure, enabling you to enter a deep state of calm with little to no memory of the process at all. Even if you have dental anxiety or special needs, this can ensure a comfortable treatment experience, a positive visit to the office!
Removing the Wisdom Teeth
Once you are properly relaxed and sedated, we will open the gums above the teeth so we can access them. We then gently remove them with a pair of forceps and suture the area closed. A friend or family will take you home, and we will provide detailed instructions to ensure a clot can form and the area heals quickly, so you return to your normal routine after a day or two of rest.
