For people with a missing tooth, or a gap of two to three lost teeth, we could help with a dental prosthetic. A dental bridge provides a lifelike and durable solution for minor tooth loss. In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about how we create and secure a dental bridge to help you once again enjoy a full smile, one that you can feel confident in showing off!
The Causes of Tooth Loss
How do we lose natural teeth? For some, gaps in the smile could occur due to an injury to the face or jaw. Missing teeth could be linked to severe tooth decay or an untreated infection. The most common factor is usually periodontal disease, as the periodontitis stage destroys the attachment tissues between your teeth and gums. When you have lost one tooth, or as many as two to three in a row, then we could create and secure one to fill this gap and restore function and beauty to your smile again!
Creating a Dental Bridge
To get started, we will examine your smile to see if we need to manage underlying issues, such as gum disease, to help ensure the stability of your teeth and your new prosthetic. We will then numb the abutment teeth, the ones on each side of the gap, and then remove structure from them. Once we do, we will take digital images of prepared teeth and gap with an intraoral camera, and then we will use the images and measurements to design and craft your new bridge.
The prosthetic will be made from ceramic, so it can handle daily bite forces and be shaded to look natural and blend with the smile. The finished product will have your new teeth with crowns on each end.
Securing Your New Teeth
With a traditional bridge, we will attach the crowns to the abutment teeth, which secures your new teeth for up to ten years. We could also insert one to two dental implants into the jaw and connect the crown to them, so we can secure a prosthetic without removing structure from natural teeth. These tend to last longer than the traditional options. If you have any questions about dental bridges, then contact our team today to learn more.
