If you have poor alignment, we can help! With custom orthodontics, we can provide treatment for kids as young as age seven, as well as teens and adults. Correcting your uneven smile not only helps you boost smile beauty, but can offer improvements for your oral and bite function too. In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about our approach to orthodontic treatment for all ages.
Traditional Braces
If you or your teen has a more severe case of misalignment, then we could offer treatment with metal braces. With this option, we will attach a metal bracket to the front facing side of the tooth. We then connect a portion of a thin arch wire to each bracket with a band. We may connect the upper and lower sets of trades with bands too. During periodic visits to our office, we will adjust tension in the arch wire so your teeth are gradually corrected, addressing more severe cases and providing a properly aligned smile in about two years. You then wear a mouthguard at night to help ensure your teeth stays in these new positions as the jawbone heals around the teeth.
Invisalign®
What if we could provide a more cosmetic solution to poor alignment? If you have a less severe case, we could offer teens and adults care with Invisalign®. We start by taking images of your smile from multiple angles with an intraoral camera, as well as digital x-rays to assess your roots and jawbone. We then create a series of clear plastic aligners. These sets are then worn for two weeks each, over the course of 20 to 23 hours a day. The aligners help shift your teeth. The aligners are clear in appearance and barely visible, and they can be removed before you eat or prior to brushing and flossing, adding convenience that isn’t possible with metal braces.
Interceptive Orthodontics
For children, starting as young as age seven in some cases, we could offer interceptive orthodontics, in which we provide care to help guide the smile’s growth and limit the severity of misalignment when they start the teen years. With custom retainers or space maintainers, we can help you enjoy more even smiles, and spend less time with braces or aligners as teens and adults.
