When you or your teen has a more severe case of dental misalignment, then you could benefit from braces. We have both traditional and esthetic options to correct crooked, crowded, and overlapping teeth. In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about correcting smiles with our braces.
The Causes and Risks of Dental Misalignment
How does a smile develop misalignment? Uneven teeth could be due to premature loss of baby teeth, which alters how permanent teeth erupt. Losing teeth in the teen and adult years could also be a factor, as this allows nearby teeth to drift from position. Issues with the growth of the jaw or eruption of the teeth could be a factor, as could injury to the face or jaw or even the arrival of the wisdom teeth.
When we have uneven teeth, this could make it difficult to brush and floss daily, which allows tooth decay and infection to develop, and leave smiles vulnerable to issues like gingivitis and gum disease. The pressure on your bite could lead to painful disorders like TMD and bruxism (teeth grinding). You could also feel discomfort with your appearance, which impacts your social life. But we can help boost the health, function, and beauty of your smile with traditional braces!
Help with Traditional Braces
With braces, our team can take on the more severe cases of dental misalignment. We will attach metal brackets to the front facing side of the teeth, and then connect a portion of an arch to these brackets with a band. For some, we also connect the upper and lower sets of teeth with a band. Our team then adjusts tension in the arch wire during periodic visits to our office, which allows the teeth to shift. The jawbone then reforms around the new positions of the teeth. For most, this takes about two years to see optimal results.
Esthetic Orthodontics
For a more attractive appearance, we could also offer esthetic braces. With this option, we will use gold for the metal portions to offer a bright and shining option. We could also use clear wires and bands to make them less visible, which is often preferable for teens and adults. If you have any questions, then contact our team today!
