Do you have discoloration? If you have stains on the surfaces of your teeth, then we could help with cosmetic dentistry. We have both in-office and at-home teeth whitening to help treat these concerns and make smiles shine. In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about brightening smiles with teeth whitening.
The Stains That Coat Your Teeth
What causes teeth stains to form? For some, factors like poor brushing and flossing, combined with a diet that contains lots of sugar and starch, could create plaque buildup, making stains more visible. For others, the use of tobacco products like cigarettes and vaping could stain teeth. Drinks with dark pigments could be a factor too, including coffee, soda, tea, and red wine. Lack of professional cleanings to remove plaque and tartar could also lead to stained teeth. Our team will examine your smile to assess the cause and severity of your discoloration, so that we can choose the most appropriate treatment option.
Whitening In-Office
For surface stains, we can likely offer results in only one visit with our in-office teeth whitening. The procedure involves our team placing a protective cover over the lips and gums, which protects them as we apply a bleaching gel onto the surfaces of the teeth. The gel then breaks up and removes discoloration with the assistance of a special light. This could take as little as one to two hours total, and you leave after one sitting with a much brighter smile. This is perfect if you need results quickly before a big date, event, graduation, or a job interview.
Removing Stains with Take-Home Trays
If you have more severe surface stains or even intrinsic discoloration that form beneath the outer enamel, then our team could offer take-home trays. We will create these in-office and send them home with you, along with multiple plastic syringes of bleaching gel. At home, you simply add gel to the trays and wear them for a specific amount of time each day, usually about an hour. After a week to ten days, you can see optimal results, with a smile up to eight shades brighter!
