woodcrest denturesIf you have minor tooth loss, we can help secure a dental bridge. But what if your tooth loss is more severe? If you have lost one of your teeth or all of them, then we could help with dentures. In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about how we secure a full smile again with full and partial dentures.

The Onset of Advanced Tooth Loss

How do we lose so many of our natural teeth? While factors like tooth decay, infection, or injury could lead to minor tooth loss, a more severe case is often linked to periodontal disease. When you do not receive treatment to manage the disease properly, it can reach a stage known as periodontitis. At this stage, the attachment tissues between the teeth and gums can be severed, which leads to loose and missing teeth. You could lose enough that your ability to eat and even speak clearly is complicated. This could upset bite balance and leave you vulnerable to issues like TMJ disorder and teeth grinding (bruxism). You could also feel confident with your appearance and even avoid social situations with your quality of life. But our team can restore function and beauty to your smile with a set of dentures.

Partial Dentures

A partial denture is a great way to address complicated cases of tooth loss, in which you have too many gaps for a bridge to treat, but you still maintain enough natural teeth that extracting them to accommodate a full denture is overkill. With a partial, we can craft a single prosthetic with new teeth that fit in these exposed gaps, all held together with a base that looks like gum tissue. Metal clasps will connect to natural teeth to secure your new ones in place. These will be removed nightly for soaking and cleaning to keep them pliable and intact. They tend to last about 5 to 10 years.

Full Dentures

Our team could also create a set of fulls. We will extract the last few teeth and take detailed images and impressions of your bite, so we can design and create a set of prosthetics made for your smile specifically. The full will contain a complete row of strong and lifelike teeth; all set in an acrylic base. Suction or adhesives will keep them in place. We can also offer a dental implant option, which is longer-lasting and more severe, which is fixed in place.
