riverside bracesIf you have a pretty severe case of misalignment, we can offer a way to strengthen your smile, boosting the health, beauty, and function of your smile. With traditional and esthetic braces, we can help correct your uneven smile, particularly for more severe cases. In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about treating misalignment with our braces, both traditional and esthetic.

When You Need Orthodontic Treatment

As we have mentioned in previous blogs, when you have minor misalignment or a more severe case, you should consider seeing our team for orthodontic treatment. Treatment can help improve the overall health and beauty of your smile, so you can feel more confident in your smile and avoid common complications of misalignment, such as tooth decay, gum disease, TMJ disorder, and even bruxism (teeth grinding). If you have a more substantial case, we could offer an even smile with the use of traditional braces!

Traditional Braces

The procedure involves attaching metal brackets to the front of each tooth. We then connect a portion of a thin arch wire to each bracket with a band. We do this for the upper and lower sets of teeth, and we connect these portions with a thin band. In periodic visits to our office, we will adjust tension in the arch wire to help shift the teeth into proper positions. The total treatment time usually takes about two years, as the jawbone needs to reform around the new positions of the teeth. You will need to wear a mouthguard following treatment to ensure your teeth do not revert to their previous positions before the jawbone can finish reforming.

An Esthetic Alternative

To help reduce the appearance of your braces, we could offer an alternative that uses clear or gold materials, helping limit their appearance. Many teens and adults prefer this option, so their orthodontics are not quite as visible during the treatment periods. If you have any questions about how we correct your uneven smile with traditional and esthetic braces, or if you are ready to start your treatment journey now, then reach out to discuss orthodontic care with our team today!
