The Risks Associated with Wisdom Tooth Eruption
What dangers will your wisdom teeth pose for your smile? These are up to four new teeth that will arrive, each at the rear of your mouth. When they erupt, there is typically no room to accommodate them, so they move your teeth and create misalignment, causing further issues with the appearance and health of your smile. You become more vulnerable to issues like tooth decay and gum disease, as well as TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding).
Wisdom teeth may only be able to partially erupt, which creates a serious concern known as tooth impaction. Their eruption could also lead to infection and cracked or chipped teeth. The Extraction
Once we have ensured you are comfortable, we will open the gums above the teeth so we can access and remove them using a pair of forceps. We then suture the area closed and provide detailed aftercare instructions and prescriptions for medications to facilitate a fast and effective healing period. You may return to your normal routine in as little as 48 hours!
