We always work hard to ensure our patients feel welcomed and comfortable. If patients have dental anxiety or special needs, or if they are undergoing more extensive oral surgical treatments, we can take steps to ensure comfort, including the use of dental sedation. In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about oral conscious sedation.
When We Recommend This for Our Patient
When do we recommend this option for our patients? We may suggest this if they are undergoing a more extensive treatment, such as tooth extraction or dental implant placement. If they have high anxiety levels, this could ensure they feel comfortable during treatment. Likewise, this could be beneficial for patients with special needs that make undergoing dental care a difficult process. Everyone deserves to enjoy a comfortable and positive experience at the office, and good oral health, and we want to make that possible for each and every one of our patients.
Choosing the Right Option for You
In today’s blog, we’re talking about oral conscious sedation, but there are also options like nitrous oxide and even IV sedation. So how do we choose the best option for you? We look at various factors, such as your age, weight, medical history, or any medications you are currently taking. We also look at your anxiety levels too. With this information, we can select the best option for you.
Oral Conscious Sedation
With oral conscious sensation, we will give you a calming medication in the form of a pill or liquid prior to the procedure. Your procedure will likely begin in the morning and we will have you fast for six to eight hours before the treatment begins. Be sure you arrive in loose and comfortable clothing, and you can bring a pillow or blanket if you like. The medication will send into a deep state of calm and relaxation. You stay conscious and able to respond to the dentist as needed, but will be cozy and likely have no memory of the procedure at all. Be sure to have someone on hand to take you home afterward! If you have any questions about oral conscious sedation, then contact our team today.
