If you suffer from tooth loss, this could mean trouble for your oral health and the appearance of your smile. Which is why even minor tooth loss needs to undergo treatment. In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about how we complete a smile with a traditional or even an implant-supported dental bridge.
The Impact of Minor Tooth Loss
When you have lost a tooth, this could lead to surrounding teeth shifting from position, creating misalignment that furthers the negative changes to your appearance and could also increase the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. Missing teeth could also impact how you eat, how clearly you speak, and could lead to a greater risk of TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). As the jawbone weakens near the missing teeth, the risk of additional lost teeth could rise as well. Which is why we want to help replace what has been lost to keep your smile strong and intact! We can help with a dental bridge.
The Traditional Bridge
The traditional dental bridge is a prosthetic that contains new teeth with crowns attached to either side. This is custom-made for your smile based on detailed images taken of your bite, and is made from durable and lifelike ceramic, which we can shade to blend with your smile. The crown portions will be attached to the natural teeth on either side, as we will remove structure from them to accommodate the crowns. Once in place, your new bridge could last about 10 to 15 years, offering a full smile!
An Implant-Secured Option
With the dental implant option, we will insert one to two dental implants into the jaw. We then attach the crown portions of the prosthetic to them, so no need to remove structure from your natural teeth. Since the implant posts act as new roots and stimulate jawbone growth, the shape of the ridge never changes and your new prosthetic can stay in place much longer, decades even. If you have any questions about how we create and secure your new dental bridge, or if you have missing teeth you want to see addressed, then reach out to our team today!
