moreno valley bridgeWhen you lose a tooth, we want to help by securing a custom prosthetic. For people with a single missing tooth, we could offer help with a dental bridge. In today’s blog, your Riverside Dental Group team talks about replacing a lost tooth with a traditional or implant-secured dental bridge.

The Factors Behind Minor Tooth Loss

How do we lose a tooth? Missing teeth could be due to a serious cavity or infection that is not treated in a timely manner, causing the tooth to fall out or be extracted to avoid the spread of infection. You could also lose a tooth to an injury to the face or jaw too. In addition, a tooth could be lost due to periodontitis, the advanced stage of gum disease. As part of your treatment, we will assess the cause of your tooth loss, so our team can decide if you need a traditional one or possibly a dental implant-supported option!

Creating Your New Dental Bridge

How do we create your dental bridge? When we provide a dental prosthetic for our patients, we will custom-make this to ensure a comfortable fit and proper bite balance, protecting your smile from complications and helping you smile with confidence. We start by gently numbing the teeth on each side of the gap in your smile. We then remove structure from these abutment teeth, and take detailed digital images and impressions of the teeth and the open gap, which are then used in a dental lab setting to design and craft your new teeth. The prosthetic contains new teeth with crowns on each end, and all are made from ceramic and color-matched to blend with the smile.

Traditional and Implant Options

With a traditional dental bridge, we will attach the crown portions of the prosthetic to the abutment teeth to keep your new ones in place for 10 to 15 years on average. But if you have a larger gap, we could insert one to two dental implants, and then attach the bridge to these. With the implant option, this keeps the jaw from changing shape, so your new teeth can last decades, and your natural teeth don’t need to lose structure either.
