If you have teeth that have been broken or developed more severe tooth decay, you need a restoration, and our team can help. To help restore your smile, we can place custom inlays and onlays! In today’s blog, your team at Riverside Dental Group talks about helping smiles with custom partial crowns.
The Need for Partial Restorations
A partial crown is perfect for in-between situations. These are concerns too severe to be treated with composite resin, which we typically use in filling and bonding procedures. But these situations are also minor enough that removing structure to accommodate a complete crown is not necessary. Instead, we could place inlays or onlays to restore the smile and prevent discomfort, and keep the teeth intact and in place for years to come! Made from lifelike materials, these will also blend with your smile.
Creating Inlays and Onlays
Our team will examine your smile with digital imaging to assess the need for treatment. If you need a partial restoration, then we will numb the tooth so you stay comfortable as we remove decay and structure to accommodate the new restoration and protect the tooth. We next take detailed images and impressions of the tooth with digital technology, a fast and effective process that requires no physical molds or gooey materials! We then design and craft the finished product from ceramic, a material that is very strong and durable, and translucent like natural tooth enamel. We will shade this to ensure it blends with your tooth.
Placing Your Partial Crowns
When the restorations are ready, we will attach them to the tooth with a powerful bonding agent, one that can secure them for years to come, the same we use for bridges and traditional crowns. The inlays will fit in between the cusps on top of the tooth. The onlays will fit over these cusps. If you have any questions about how we design and craft your custom restorations, or if you have an aching or damaged tooth that needs attention, then please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team today! We want to help restore your smile and ensure a lifelike appearance afterward.
