Losing a tooth or as many as three in a row can impact the health, function, and appearance of your smile. But we can help with the placement of a dental bridge, one we custom-made for your bite. In today’s blog, your team at Riverside Dental Group talks about the benefits of a dental bridge.
The Benefits of Taking on Tooth Loss
Don’t let the gap in your smile change things for the worse. The missing tooth (or teeth) could lead to misalignment as nearby teeth drift from position, causing misalignment that further impacts smile beauty and overall oral health. With poor alignment comes a greater risk of tooth decay and gum disease! Missing teeth could also impact bite balance and leave you vulnerable to TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). You could also have issues with smiling or laughing in public, which harms your quality of life alongside your oral health. But we can fill the gap with a dental bridge.
Creating a Custom Dental Prosthetic
The prosthetic is always custom-made for your bite, no one-size-fits-all approach. We will numb the teeth on each side of the gap, known as abutment teeth, and then gently remove structure from them. We then take detailed digital images and measurements of the area with digital technology, using these to design and craft your new bridge.
The prosthetic will contain new teeth known as pontics, with crowns attached to each end. Made from materials like ceramic, this can be shaded to blend with your smile.
Securing Your Bridge and Improving Your Smile
When you return to the office for placement, we will attach the crown portions of your new prosthetic to the abutment teeth, which secures your new teeth firmly in place. You now have a full smile and a lifelike appearance, and your new teeth could last as long as 10 to 15 years on average. For an even longer-lasting option, we could discuss securing them with one to two dental implants.
