corona bracesDo you have a severe case of dental misalignment? If so, then we could help! Your smile is never too far gone for treatment, and we can help with traditional braces. In today’s blog, your team at Riverside Dental Group talks about how we shift smiles with traditional braces.

The Risks of Major Misalignment

When you have a serious case of dental misalignment, this could mean crooked, crowded, and overtalking teeth. You could feel self-conscious about your appearance, and may even avoid social interactions. Your alignment concerns could make it difficult to brush and floss thoroughly leaving you vulnerable to issues like tooth decay and gum disease. The imbalance in your bite from poor alignment is also linked to a higher risk of complications like TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). To correct your smile and boost your oral health and bite function, we can address major alignment with braces!

Traditional Braces

How do we improve your smile with traditional braces? We will attach metal brackets to the front-facing side of each tooth. We then connect a portion of a thin arch wire to each bracket with a band. There may also be additional bands connecting the upper and lower sets of teeth in some cases. When we adjust tension in the wire, this helps shift the teeth closer and closer to their proper position in your bite. The process takes about two years to complete, as the jawbone needs to reform around the new positions of your teeth.

Esthetic Options

For some teens and adults, we could also offer esthetic braces! We could use gold for the arch wires, or use clear brackets and arch wires, to make the orthodontics more attractive to the wearer, or make them less visible, depending on the patient’s preferences. We could also discuss alternative treatment options, such as Invisalign® clear aligners, which don’t need metal brackets or wires at all!
