Do you have multiple missing teeth? Losing your teeth can lead to a number of uncomfortable symptoms, including misalignment, an aged appearance due to loss of jawbone tissue, TMJ disorder, and possibly even bruxism (teeth grinding). However, we offer multiple options for replacing missing teeth. Should you wear dentures or implant dentures to complete your smile?

Dentures

Full or complete dentures consist of a set of replacement teeth and acrylic base designed to mimic the appearance of gum tissue. They are held in place with natural suction and possibly the use of an adhesive. They are removable and must be soaked and cleaned regularly. They are designed based on impression of the mouth to ensure a lifelike prosthetic. On average, the prosthetic will require adjustment or replacement every five to ten years.

Partials

If you are missing multiple teeth but don’t yet need a full prosthetic we may recommend partials. Like a full prosthetic, they have artificial teeth and a gum-like base. However, they also have metal clasps that attach to natural teeth to anchor them in place, replacing lost teeth even if they are spread out across an arch.

Implant Dentures

This prosthetic consists of new teeth and a base that looks like natural gingival tissue. However, they do not require suction or adhesives to be held in place. Instead, six to eight dental implants will be placed into each arch. The prosthetic snaps onto the arch, providing a fixed prosthetic that do not need to be removed.

Which Will Work Best for Me?

If you have gum disease or have lost significant portions of jawbone tissue due to tooth loss than a traditional removable prosthetic may be the best option. However, if you have healthy gum tissue and an adequate amount of jawbone tissue then we may suggest the implant-supported option. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact our office.
