Whether it’s an addiction, an obsession, or something you just happen to experience because of your deep love for caramel lattes, your intake of caffeine may affect your sleep apnea. As you might have imagined, it’s impacting it in a negative way (sorry for the let down!). The good news is that if you’re receiving sleep apnea treatment, you’re already being quite proactive in an effort to protect your sleep and your health. However, your daily dose of stimulant-by-beverage-consumption isn’t doing you any favors. Consider some tips, so you can still enjoy your daily java without complications.
Tip: Drink It In The Morning
If your caffeine intake is causing you to wake up at night or have trouble falling asleep, you’re not making it any easier for your sleep apnea treatment to work and for you to regain your natural, solid sleeping patterns. Unless you’re extremely sensitive to caffeine (in which case you may need to give it up), we suggest you drink it in the morning. Then, by nighttime, it will have worn off completely, so you can sleep like a baby.
Tip: Try Decaf
For some, the word “decaf” is an abomination. For others, coffee is coffee, tea is tea, and so on and so forth. You may wish to try replacing some or all of your usually caffeinated beverages with decaf (or trying out a half-caff option, which is only half caffeinated). If you can grow to love it, you will still get to enjoy the experience of your favorite drink without worrying that it’s getting in the way of successful sleep apnea treatment.
