An emergency situation rarely happens during regular business hours. We know this, and offer late hours, same day appointments, and after-hours care as part of our approach to emergency dentistry. If you have a damaged tooth or sudden pain in your teeth or gums and the issue isn’t life threatening, then let us know! In the meantime, here are ways you can help address the situations in route to the dentist’s office.

Common Dental Emergencies

  1. Chipped Tooth: If you chip a tooth, first try to round up any pieces of the tooth you can and bring them to the office with you. However, we can still treat you if this proves impossible. You can use gauze to stem any bleeding or a cold compress against the side of the face to reduce swelling. You may also take an over-the-counter pain reliever.
  2. Objects Trapped Between Teeth: Should an object become trapped between the teeth, use floss to remove it. If this can’t be done, then see us. Never use anything other than floss or you could injure the gums and exacerbate your problem.
  3. Knocked-Out Tooth: Pick the tooth up the crown (never touch the root) and place it in a glass of milk or salt water. Bring it to the office with you. We also recommend rinsing it under water to remove dirt, but take care not to remove any tissue.
