However, a tooth that has a filling or a crown may not enjoy as long a life as one that is pristine. The moment we begin removing tissue for restorations is the moment a tooth is no longer structurally sound on its own. The more natural tissue you can retain, the longer that tooth may potentially last in the grand scheme of things. So, the best approach is remaining serious about preventive care.

#2: Explains That Earlier Care Is Best

Now, you don’t want your kids to think that it’s bad to require restorations. Things happen, damage occurs, sometimes tooth decay is sneaky, etc. Remind your kids that as much as prevention is essential (including not only home care but also checkups and cleanings), so is immediate treatment of problems that arise.

Remind your teens and young adult children that protecting their oral health for their entire lifetime means keeping teeth healthy now and always. Placing fillings or crowns immediately instead of allowing more serious destruction (like infection) is something to remember. Otherwise, tooth loss is a very real possibility in the future.
